Orleanstoren

The Aurelianus Tower (or Orleanstoren) is one of the few remnants of the old city walls around the city of Aarschot, built between 1360 - 1365. However, these have been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries. Located on a hill, the tower rises 40 metres above the town on the Demer river. A beautiful panorama is a reward for the climb to the 52-metre summit. In 1990, the tower, which has been protected since 31 July 1936, was restored. (Source: Wikipedia)

In 2022 a2o together with 61 Defacqz won the competition for the repurpose of the tower. The winning idea consists in a new infill of the construction with a stair which will give the opportunity to discover the tower in a new way from another perspective and to be able to admire the surrounding landscape as done back in the days.
